Bishop Dr. Allyson Nelson Abrams is an articulate, dynamic, creative individual. She is the founder and pastor of Empowerment Liberation Cathedral located in the Nation’s Capital. With her passion for real estate and zeal for business, she founded MyVision LLC and is a realtor with Keller Williams in DC & MD. Dr. Abrams is a graduate of the Mecca, Howard University, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME). She later received the Master of Divinity (MDIV) and Doctor of Ministry (DMIN) from United Theological Seminary. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PHD) in Practical Theology from Wayland Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Abrams has used her energetic influence in many walks of life. She was elected to serve on the Oak Park, Michigan’s School Board as President and Trustee. She was trained in Politics by Michigan State’s Public Policy Fellowship program (MPLP) and was a Fellow in 2006. She is a former Police Chaplain with Detroit Public Schools. She is a former Vice President of South Oakland County’s NAACP. Her passion allowed her to cross many paths. She worked as a patent examiner at the U. S. Department of Patent & Trademark Office. She serves as a Commissioner on the Washington DC Mayor’s Interfaith Council. Her loving spirit and compassion for creation brought her to wellness for all. Bishop Abrams served as the President of the Mental Health Network Board with the United Church of Christ for 3 years. She also serves as the Vice-Chair of the New Church Development Board with the Central Atlantic Conference of UCC. She also serves on the House of Bishops of The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries (TFAM). Her passion as an entrepreneur and zeal for growing her family business and brand, Dr. Abrams served on the National Small Business Administration’s Leadership Council for several years. She also has had her own television show on Public Broadcast stations in DC and in MD. She had a show on TikTok every Friday night called Church’ish. She also was the bishop to marry the first lesbian couple on a black cable network channel (TV ONE) in 2014 to air their wedding on a tv show. Bishop Abrams currently serves as a Commissioner on Hate Crime & Prevention with the State of Maryland. She is a long-time member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and The Order of Eastern Star. She is the mother of 3 adult children.
